Climate Courage Schools

A movement for honest, emotionally attuned and empowering climate education.

Schools are on the frontline of a changing world. Climate disruption is already reshaping the lives of young people, fuelling distress, apathy and uncertainty about the future.

Yet the education system is still built on assumptions of stability it can no longer deliver.

Climate Courage Schools is a national campaign calling for a system-wide shift: where teachers are supported to speak the truth, students are empowered to act, and schools become centres of emotional resilience, practical adaptation and collective purpose.
Join us
Whether you’re a teacher, student, parent or mental health professional, your voice and experience can help shape this change.

Support teachers. Face feelings. Act together.

We need your lived experience to move politicians, educators and the public. Tell us what it feels like to teach or learn about climate change and help build the human case for change.
Know a school, teacher or initiative integrating emotional literacy with climate education? Nominate them (or yourself) so we can link up pioneers and spread best practice.

Why now?

  1. 68% of young people in the UK say climate change makes them afraid
  2. 4 in 5 teachers say climate chaos is their students’ biggest challenge
  3. Only 13% received any climate training in teacher education
  4. 72% of UK parents want climate to be taught in schools

A collaboration between teachers, students, researchers, and mental health professionals, we’re driven by the belief that when it comes to turning climate anxiety into widespread action, there’s no better place to start than in schools.

As the gap grows between climate reality and the emotional capacity of young people and teachers, this campaign calls on the Department of Education to act.

We are calling for

Leadership that champions wellbeing, nature connection and future-readiness

Culture that makes space for climate distress and emotional honesty

Action that empowers students and staff to turn schools into climate adaptation hubs

Curriculum that equips every student to adapt and thrive in a climate destabilised world

Climate courage in action

Resource Library

Amazing work is already underway to create the inner resource we need – it’s time for this capacity to become available to as many people as possible. Three pioneers in the field (Louise Edgington, Siobhan Currie and Chantal Burns) curated a database of free resources intended to help address taboos connected to climate emotions and create a more holistic climate education.

You can also find relevant case studies in our newly-released mini-report, written by Josephine Lethbridge with a foreword by Caroline Lucas and contributions by Liam Kavanagh, Les Gunbie and Jadzia Tedeschi.
